Reducing Arson

Arson is a crime that affects the entire community. It reduces property values, increases other crimes in the neighborhood and increases the likely hood that a firefighter or citizen will be injured or killed. Half of intentional structure fires are started in the home. How can we reduce this crime in our community? First and foremost, protect your home with smoke alarms. Reduce vegetation around your home to make it more visible when the police department drives by. If you know of a vacant structure and people are entering this location, report it to the fire department and police department so that it can be secured. If you hear any details about a fire that has happened, report those findings to local law enforcement for follow-up. Your help is needed to keep arson in check.
