Mountain Iron Fire Department is Moving Ahead: Good Luck Chief Buria, Thank You Tom Cvar!

It's been a tough spring for the Mountain Iron Fire Department and its members. For several months, the department's good reputation came under fire as a result of the controversy involving Fire Chief Tom Cvar. The end result was that the Mountain Iron City Council voted to remove Cvar and replace him with 17 year veteran Joe Buria. There were resignations, accusations and a whole lot of things that came out in the news media. Hopefully, all of this has ended and the fire department can move ahead. Joe Buria has a lot of work ahead of him, but knowing Joe, he is up to the tasks that will confront him and the fire department. He's already had a couple of fires under his command and his performance has been very admirable. He has the ability to bring the department back together. Good Luck Joe! We know you will do well!

We also need to thank Tom Cvar for his work and dedication to the fire service. He served on the Mountain Iron Fire Department for nearly 30 years and as fire chief for 25 years. This is quite an accomplishment no matter how you look at it. He has been an active member of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association as well as the Minnesota IAAI organization. Again, these are all tributes to his dedication to the area's firefighters. It is unfortunate that his fire service career ended the way it did. We hope that time, which is a great healer, will eventually provide a sense of honor, pride and integrity in what Tom Cvar accomplished for the fire department, its members and the fire service community. Thank You Tom Cvar! We wish you the best.
