Clinton Firefighter Loses Home
March 1, 2009 — A late afternoon fire has left a Clinton Township firefighter without a home. The fire was reported around 4:15 p.m. at the Dean Mattila Residence, located near the intersection of St. Louis County Highway 7 and Keenan Road. Two occupants and all of the family's pets were evacuated safely, although one firefighter reportedly received minor burns and was treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported. Clinton firefighters were assisted by personnel from the nearby McDavitt, Cherry and Fayal fire departments. Damages were estimated at about $75,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but may have started in the chimney area near the roof. Firefighters remained on the scene for just over six hours.
