Duluth Firefighters Rescue Three From Burning Duplex
March 6, 2008 — Duluth firefighters rescued two children, ages 2 and 6 and their mother from the second story of a duplex in the western part of Duluth. The fire was reported around 3:45 p.m. at 319 North 58th Avenue West. Using a ground ladder, firefighters were able to rescue the two children from the roof of a porch. However, when smoke and heat erupted, firefighters then had to reposition the ladder to remove the woman from the roof. The three were taken to a Duluth hospital for smoke inhalation and later released. Firefighters launched an interior attack but were evacuated due to heavy interior fire. After an extensive defensive attack, firefighters re-entered the building. No firefighter injuries were reported. The duplex is considered a complete loss and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
