Hibbing Reports Increase in Fire Calls

January 22, 2008 — This past year turned out to be a busy one for the Hibbing Fire Department. According to Fire Marshal Jim Iammatteo, the department handled 1,958 EMS and 380 fire calls in 2007. In 2006, Hibbing paramedic/firefighters responded to 1,995 EMS runs and 350 fire calls. "I think the reason we saw an increase in fire calls was because of an increase in carbon monoxide calls and that was primarily due to a new state law requiring them in homes and apartments," said Iammatteo. "We have seen many faulty detectors that are type which combine smoke and carbon monoxide detection."
