Virginia Fire Chief Selected

March 11, 2007 — The more things change, the more they stay the same. This old adage could be applied to the selection of the new Virginia fire chief. Darrell Knapper, who was serving as the interim chief for about two months, has now been named to the position on a permanent basis. Originally, the city's personnel committee selected another candidate from Iowa, but the name was later withdrawn after a background check got underway. Knapper, who had served as a Captain and also President of IAFF Local 390, began his official duties on March 1st.
