Mountain Iron Home Destroyed
December 9, 2011 - A newly constructed house in the Unity II Addition of Mountain Iron was destroyed by an afternoon fire. The fire was reported around 3:30 p.m. at 5479 Jade Lane. Firefighters found the garage and attached house engulfed in smoke and flames when they arrived. The owner of the house was taken by Eveleth Ambulance to the Virginia Regional Medical Center where he was treated for smoke inhalation. A dog that was in the house at the time was rescued by firefighters. No other injuries were reported. Firefighters from Mountain Iron, Virginia, Eveleth and Fayal Township helped to battle the blaze. Damages could run as high as $200,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office.
