Hibbing Fire Station Renovation Underway

May 1, 2006 — Construction work has started on the Hibbing Fire Department's main station. The project includes the addition of a second floor, renovation of offices, restrooms and entrances. In addition, the exterior of the 40 year old building is also seeing a facelift. The second floor addition will have six bedrooms, a study area, two locker rooms and a kitchen. According to Fire Chief Tony Pogorels, "this is an old building and it's time for an update." Pogorels told The Northland Fire Wire that they are hoping to showcase the renovation during the fire department's Fire Prevention Week activities in October. The project's cost was put around $340,000. "There had been plans for years for the renovation," said Pogorels. "We even had money allocated to the project, but it was diverted to another undertaking in the city. Now, we were able to get the funding and we're moving ahead. I guess better late than never."
