Virginia House Destroyed, Two Damaged
January 7, 2011 — Firefighters from Virginia, Mountain Iron, Eveleth and Fayal Township battled an early afternoon house fire in the southside area of Virginia. The blaze was reported just before 1:30 p.m. in the 100 block of 8th Street South. Arriving Virginia firefighters found flames and heavy smoke coming from a two story hose at 111 8th Street South, with houses on each side of the structure also being threatened. Firefighters were initially told that there were people in the burning house, but upon arrival were informed that everyone was out of the structure. No injuries were reported, but firefighters had to contend with SCBA's that were freezing up. Crews remained on the scene for well over five hours. The two adjacent homes had smoke damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
