Late Night Fire Damages Duluth Bar and Apartment Complex
November 15, 2010 — A late night fire caused extensive damage to the Kozy Bar and Apartments in downtown Duluth. The Duluth Fire Department was dispatched shortly after 10:30 p.m. to 129 East 1st Street. Flames and heavy smoke were coming from the building when the first crews arrived. One person was rescued from the structure. The American Red Cross said 47 people were left homeless. An initial damage estimate of $650,000 was reported. The cause remains under investigation, but the blaze likely originated from an upstairs apartment.
