New Park Point Fire Station Put On Hold

August 16, 2010 — A new fire station for Duluth's Park Point won't be happening, at least for now. The city had budgeted $650,000 for a new building, but bids were $100,000 over that amount. The bidding has forced the city and the fire department to rethink plans for building a new station. Fire Chief John Strongitharm is now looking at doing a study next year that would look at the fire department's needs and future trends. The Park Point fire station (Number 5) is more than 50 years old and is in deteriorating condition. The station, which is manned by only one firefighter, responds to about 100 calls a year.
