Grand Rapids Fire
February 7, 2010 — Firefighters from Grand Rapids, Cohasset and the Hill City fire departments battled a late afternoon fire at the Sugar Lake condos, formerly the Sugar Hills Ski Resort. The apartment complex is located southwest of Grand Rapids. Fire officials say the blaze was contained to one apartment, although the third floor had heat and smoke damage while the first and second floors had water damage. Thirteen families were displaced. Two pets, a ferret and a cat, perished while another cat was saved. Damages were put at around $200,000 but officials say that estimate could go higher. The cause of the fire is being linked to a stove that was left on. Information courtesy of the Grand Rapids Herald-Review. Photos courtesy of the Grand Rapids Fire Department.
