Sprinkler System Contains Virginia Apartment Building Fire
November 15, 2009 — The sprinkler system in the Third Avenue Hotel apartment building, 201 3rd Avenue North, in Virginia is being credited with containing a fire which broke out in the heavily populated building. The fire was reported shortly after 5:00 p.m. When Virginia firefighters first arrived, small flames were seen in a second floor apartment. The room where the fire started had fire and smoke damage while the apartment below had water damage and the apartment above had smoke damage. The Mountain Iron and Eveleth fire departments were also called to the scene. One of the apartment's occupants had minor burns. No other injuries were reported as all of the residents were safely evacuated. The fire displaced four families. The cause of the fire is under investigation, although one of the residents stated that he was sure the fire was caused by an electrical problem.
